RCIA

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) involves preparation for and celebration of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, which manifests the intimate relation of these sacraments to one another. The primary focus of the RCIA is the Christian initiation of unbaptized. The Rite also provides for welcoming non-Catholics seeking full communion with the Church.

Adults wishing to learn more about the Catholic faith are invited to participate in our Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) process.

Participants begin the RCIA process with an orientation with the Pastor, Fr. Donald Lemay.  Please call  272-2948 to make an appointment

ADULT CONFIRMATION

The Adult Confirmation Program is for adults who were baptized and raised Catholic and have received First Holy Communion, but were not confirmed. Adults baptized in another Christian denomination who are seeking to become Catholic are properly referred to as candidates for full communion and should read information regarding the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
Confirmation enriches the baptized with the strength of the Holy Spirit so that they can be better witness to Christ in word and deed (Catechism of the Catholic Church [CCC] 1285). Anointed by the Holy Spirit at Confirmation, Christians strengthen their bond with the Church and become better equipped to carry out the Church's mission of love and service.
The Adult Confirmation Program is suggested for St. Edward parishioners who:

  • Seek the Sacrament of Confirmation
  • Are 18 years of age or older and no longer in high school
  • Were baptized Catholic (a copy of the baptism certificate is required)
  • Have received First Holy Communion
  • Are attending Mass and receiving Communion regularly

An interview with our pastor, Fr. Don Lemay and completion of appropriate forms is necessary.

RCIA & the Rite of Full Communion for Children

Are you interested in raising your children Catholic but they haven't been baptized yet or have been baptized in another Christian faith?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) also includes a component for children and teens seeking preparation for and celebration of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, which manifests the intimate relation of these sacraments to one another. The primary focus of the process is the Christian initiation of the unbaptized. The Rite also provides for welcoming non-Catholics seeking full communion with the Church.

Not Baptized? Children and teens wishing to learn more about the Catholic faith are invited to participate in our Rite of Christian Initiation for Children/Youth (RCIC) process. The process for children/teens ages seven or older is called Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC). Participants begin the process with an orientation. Students are placed in Sunday morning or evening religious education classes. Supplemental classes will be schedule throughout the catechetical year. Those who desire baptism are received into the Church at Easter Vigil.

Baptized in another Christian Faith? Children over the age of seven and teens who have been baptized in non-Catholic Christian faith and would like to become Catholic and receive sacraments are invited to participate in the process of preparation called The Rite of Full Communion. Participants are prepared and receive sacraments on selected dates throughout the year. IMPORTANT NOTE: If your child was baptized in another Christian faith and is UNDER the age of 7, there is a different process of bringing the child into the Church. Contact Joan Nelson for details
